Jim Huber | Owner & Licensed Building Contractor
My journey in construction began in 1997, just out of high school. What started as a job quickly became a lifelong passion. Over the last three decades, I’ve worked in nearly every aspect of residential construction, including framing, finish carpentry, electrical work, project management, site supervision, and general contracting. That broad experience gives me a unique perspective when approaching remodeling projects and allows me to see opportunities and solutions that others may miss.
In 2000, I earned my electrical license and went on to work as a Foreman for Parsons Electric, managing large-scale commercial projects including portions of the Minneapolis Convention Center and the Walker Art Center. While those experiences were invaluable, my passion has always been residential construction and helping homeowners transform the spaces where they live their lives.
Over the years, my work has been featured on HGTV, DIY Network, Good Housekeeping, and Midwest Home Magazine. I also spent several years working in television production as both a licensed building contractor and construction coordinator, contributing to more than 150 episodes of HGTV and DIY Network programming. Those experiences exposed me to some of the industry’s most talented designers, builders, and craftspeople while reinforcing my commitment to quality construction and creative problem-solving.
Simply put, I eat, sleep, and breathe remodeling.
One of the things that makes JR Structures different is our organic building process. While every project begins with a plan, I believe the best remodeling projects evolve through collaboration. As construction progresses, new ideas often emerge, challenges reveal opportunities, and better solutions become apparent. Rather than forcing a project to follow a rigid path, I work closely with homeowners to ensure those opportunities can be incorporated into the final result whenever possible.
I also believe accessibility matters. Whether it’s answering questions, discussing options, reviewing details, or addressing concerns, I make myself available throughout the process. Remodeling can feel overwhelming, and homeowners deserve direct access to the person responsible for bringing their vision to life.
My philosophy is simple: when we begin a remodeling project, we’re entering into a partnership. My goal isn’t simply to complete a project and move on. It’s to become a trusted resource for homeowners both during construction and for years afterward. That means being honest, transparent, approachable, and committed to delivering the best possible outcome. The projects may eventually end, but the relationships shouldn’t.
When I’m not on a jobsite, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family. I’ve been married to my high school sweetheart for nearly three decades, and together we’ve raised six incredible kids. Outside of construction, I’m a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, an avid scuba diver, and enjoy spending downtime at our family cabin in the Brainerd Lakes area.
Whether you’re planning a kitchen remodel, home addition, basement finish, outdoor living space, or whole-home renovation, I look forward to learning about your goals and helping you create a home that works better for the way you live.
